Squarespace Review 2022: Features, Pros & Cons, Is It Worth it?

Squarespace Review Squarespace Review: A Top Website Builder

Do you want to create stunning websites without having to master all the technical details?

One of my top recommendations is Squarespace. It’s a user-friendly website builder that allows anyone to quickly and easily create amazing websites.

The exquisite platform was founded by a University of Maryland undergraduate student in 2004 and has since grown in popularity. Squarespace is now a hugely popular website builder, with millions of people using it to create their online presence.

Squarespace Compared to The Best Website Builders

Squarespace stands out for one key reason: it makes it incredibly simple for even the most inexperienced novice to design stunning websites. Squarespace is one of the greatest website builders on the market today, even though it didn’t make our list of best site builders.

We painstakingly went through each website builder in our review of the best site builders to determine the four top choices for various needs and use cases.

I’ve been creating websites for years, so you can bet I know a thing or two about what makes a good website builder. After you’ve read it, you’ll be able to make the best decision possible. See our complete list of the best website builders. Let’s get started.

Who is Squarespace Best For?

Squarespace is without a doubt the greatest website builder for designers, artists, and ecommerce merchants who want to create visually beautiful sites with minimal effort. This makes it a great option for small business owners that want to improve their aesthetic presence but don’t have the budget or know-how to do it.

Because Squarespace is a hosted option, you won’t have to go through the trouble of finding a server or installing software. All in one spot, you can construct a gorgeous website simply in your browser.

What’s the bottom line?  Squarespace is ideal for designers who enjoy working with templates and a style editor that allows you to customise even the tiniest features of your site. Still, there are major pros and cons to take into account.

Squarespace: The Pros and Cons

Pros -

Responsive site templates:

Squarespace has over 100 different site templates to pick from. The best part is that they’re already mobile-friendly. A benefit you won’t always obtain with other website builders’ layouts.

Unlimited storage space:

Every Squarespace plan includes unlimited storage. This is fantastic news for creative sites that will undoubtedly amass a large media library over time. You won’t have to worry about exceeding your storage or bandwidth limits with Squarespace.

Supportive live chat:

Stuck? There’s no need to be concerned. With its live chat option, an agent is always available to assist you with any site-building issues you may encounter.

Webinars and help guides:

When it comes to the backend, Squarespace, like most website builders, has a bit of a learning curve. To address this, Squarespace has created a large library of informative assistance guides and webinars that will quickly elevate you to Squarespace expert status.

Built-in email marketing:

Squarespace’s built-in email marketing tool is one of my favourite features. Simply told, it’s an add-on that allows you to create eye-catching emails with attractive layouts without using a third-party service. I don’t know about you, but the less software I have to interact with in order to do a task, the better. You’ll also get a lot of integrated analytics.

Cons -

Limited control over your domain name:

If you purchase your domain name with Squarespace, you will not be able to transfer it to another hosting provider if you change your mind later. This could be a deciding factor in whether you want to use Squarespace to host your site and buy your domain name yourself.

Limited SEO features:

Squarespace’s SEO powers have been questioned by a number of digital specialists. While there are lots of success stories of Squarespace sites ranking on Google, optimising your articles and pages isn’t as simple as it is with other website builders like WordPress or Drupal. This is an important aspect to consider if SEO is your primary method of driving visitors to your site.

Squarespace Pricing

So, how much does it cost to get started with Squarespace and all of its lovely templates? You have a few fantastic options to choose from.
-Personal – $12 per month billed annually
-Business – $18 per month billed annually
-Basic Commerce – $26 per month billed annually
-Advanced Commerce – $40 per month billed annually

Let’s start with the obvious: Squarespace isn’t the cheapest website builder or hosting service available. However, if you’re primarily interested in quickly creating jaw-dropping websites that capture the attention of your target audience, the cost of even a personal plan may not be an issue.

Personal

You’ll get basic site features including a free custom domain, SSL certification, unlimited bandwidth and storage, additional SEO features, access to Squarespace extensions, and 24/7 customer support if you choose the Personal tier.

All for the low price of $12 each month. While you can get all of this and sometimes even more for less with other web builders, it’s still worth looking into each of their tiers to see if there’s a Squarespace plan that suits your needs.

Business

If you’re looking for a low-cost option for an online store with basic features, Squarespace’s business tier is ideal. You receive everything in the Personal tier plus a range of fully integrated ecommerce tools to help you sell and maintain goods, accept payments, and more with the Business tier.

You’ll also have the option to sell an unlimited amount of products, receive donations, and allow your customers to create and send gift cards. What’s the bottom line? For a beginner to advanced ecommerce business, you should start with the Business Squarespace tool.

Basic Commerce

Consider Squarespace’s Basic Commerce tier to be the older brother of the Business tier. While you’ll get all of the features of the corporate tier, the $26 a month option adds a few more powerful features.

Your online store will be able to instantly list and tag products on Facebook and Instagram, as well as access powerful ecommerce analytics and even create customer profiles, using Basic Commerce. While other web builders may provide a similar set of services, Squarespace categorises them to focus only on online retailing.

Advanced Commerce

The fact that there are no transaction fees is perhaps the most compelling feature of Squarespace’s Advanced Commerce tier, which costs $40 per month.

What does this imply for your online store? A built-in payment gateway that allows you to process payments without any of the fees that can eat into your profit margin.

While you’ll get everything from the previous tiers, you’ll also get sophisticated shipping tools, advanced discounts, and an abandoned cart recovery technique that can help you make more money. Squarespace has clearly thought of everything when it comes to developing a successful ecommerce store, with special attention paid to both the frontend and backend of things. I think they earn a lot of brownie points for this.

But don’t take it from me. I recommend going over each of their pricing levels carefully to determine which one appeals to you the best. Switching to a new website builder can be time-consuming and inconvenient once you’ve committed to one.

Let’s take a look at how Squarespace’s primary features stack up and what you can learn about each of them in terms of creating your greatest website.

Squarespace Offerings

Squarespace has a plethora of capabilities for building and optimising your website. Overall, their web builder tools are divided into three distinct yet useful categories in which they concentrate their efforts. Examining each one more closely can assist you in making the ideal web builder choices.

Website Builder and Hosting

Squarespace prides itself on becoming the industry leader in site design. This assertion isn’t made in vain. The drag-and-drop web builder and site templates make it simple to create portfolios and professional websites that will last. In addition to their web builder tools, they also provide site analytics as an added bonus.

While I wouldn’t call Squarespace the finest content management web builder, it performs an excellent job in terms of design and visual appeal. It also emphasises the flexibility you’ll need to develop a portfolio that meets your design requirements.

Ecommerce

Squarespace also excels in the ecommerce arena, giving it a viable option for hosting your online store. Their services give you the ability to sell anything, including items, services, and appointments of any sort.

If you’re a business that relies on first impressions to generate sales, Squarespace has you covered, not only with a variety of shop templates but also with a powerful backend that can help you manage your work orders. This distinguishes it as a web builder tool for selling online, while some competitors simply don’t go the extra mile.

Squarespace even allows you to construct a membership site, which speaks much in terms of innovation and staying on top of the latest trends. Not every site builder is as specific with their tools as others. This is just another feature that sets Squarespace apart from the competition.

Brand Building Tools

If there’s one thing Squarespace as a website builder tool excels at, it’s branding. Squarespace has already been mentioned as a visual builder. However, this does not imply that they lack resources in the area of brand planning.

Squarespace enables you to design dynamic email campaigns that are as innovative and aesthetically striking as your website. This means you can effortlessly click and drag the products on your site that you wish to highlight or announce a storewide promotion to your audience.

Unfold, like email, is Squarespace’s one-of-a-kind “storyteller tool.” You may use it to generate awe-inspiring social content that’s simple to share for more brand exposure. Filters, sticker sets, and simple picture editing make it easy to communicate your brand’s storey.

When it comes to catering to a visual community, Squarespace is a pioneer in the site builder field. They accomplish this by combining both effective website construction tools and the aesthetics of design.

There aren’t many Squarespace-like builders that are truly comparable as a website builder that also serves as a host. Squarespace, on the other hand, has a lot of features that make it more of a specialised website builder. It effectively caters to its target clientele.
