Best Website Builder 2022: We’ve Reviewed the 11 Best
So far, we’ve evaluated over 50 website builders, and here are the 11 best. Compare them in our comparison chart, or keep reading for a more in-depth discussion of their strengths and disadvantages.
We’ve researched and tried a lot of website builders over the years, so we can confidently declare that Wix is the greatest all-around website builder available.
Wix combines ease of use with complete creative flexibility, allowing beginners to easily design professional-looking websites. Squarespace, on the other hand, isn’t far behind, offering the greatest template designs on the market, making it ideal for creatives. GoDaddy is comfortably ranked third because to its time-saving features and extensive design functionality.
These are our best three, although we evaluated over 50 website builders before narrowing it down to a final 11. Check out the list below to see who took the other eight positions and how they stacked up against each other.

Overview of Wix
- Wix is a user-friendly website builder that provides you complete creative control over your site. Unlike some other builders, it does not sacrifice power or customizability for simplicity; instead, it combines easy drag-and-drop editing capabilities with a plethora of functionality.
- Wix has shown to be the platform that, quite literally, does it all, with an 18 percent gain in its ‘Features’ score in our pre-2021 research — driven mostly by improvements to its blogging and internationalisation. It’s not just a terrific website builder, but it’s also an excellent choice if you want to start an online store, with three ecommerce-specific plans and a slew of tools to help you sell more. But that doesn’t imply it’ll be suitable for everyone, especially given its hefty price tag and busy visual editor.
- It offers a free plan as well as eight premium options beginning at $14 per month. You have over 800 templates to select from, but choose wisely since you can’t change your template once your site is online.
- In our tests, Wix scored the highest “likely to suggest” score from our users – therefore, if you’re not sure which website builder to use, give Wix a try for free and see how you like it.
- Wix is our top-rated website builder because it provides tools for complete beginners to construct a very gorgeous website.
- Wix offers more templates than any other builder, with over 800 in a variety of sectors.
- Customize your design by dragging and dropping items into place, similar to how a PowerPoint presentation is done.
- So far, do you like the sound of Wix?
- Explore Wix’s website to learn more about its features, templates, and other offerings.
2) Squarespace
- -Excellent for Creatives and High-Quality Designs
- -Monthly fees range from $12 to $46.
- -RATING: EXCELLENT 4.7/ 5
- -Excellent website designs
- -Excellent blogging features
- -Perfect for artists and designers
- -A free trial is available.
- Paid Plans range from $12 to $46 per month.
Overview of Squarespace
- Squarespace is an advanced website builder that has a lot to offer both creatives and companies. It isn’t the most user-friendly builder on the market, but it won’t take long to get used to — it simply requires a bit more effort and patience than Wix.
- Squarespace’s template designs are the finest on the market, and are ideal for creatives who want a visually attractive website (and standing out is vital, given that there are over 1.8 billion websites on the internet as of January 2021!). However, it is not a matter of aesthetics over substance – Squarespace also boasts a plethora of capabilities to give your site the strength it requires.
- Furthermore, Squarespace has the greatest knowledge centre on the industry. There, you’ll discover text, image, and video training, as well as a streamlined onboarding process and clear navigational signposts and advice.
- Squarespace offers a 14-day free trial as well. If you enjoy the trial and wish to sign up, there are four premium plans to select from, with prices beginning at $12 per month.
- Squarespace is the greatest website builder for creatives since it is powerful, fashionable, and well-designed.
- Squarespace’s template selection is limited, but each one is well-designed.
- It takes a bit longer to get acclimated to working using Squarespace, but the end result is well worth the effort.
- If you want to sell a few things later, Squarespace makes it simple — we appreciate Rice Over Everything’s sleek and vivid look.
- Do You Want a Beautiful Website?
- Squarespace blends elegance and strength, making it an excellent choice for designers.

3. GoDaddy
- -Excellent for Creatives and High-Quality Designs
- -Monthly fees range from $12 to $46.
- -RATING: EXCELLENT 4.7/ 5
- -Excellent website designs
- -Excellent blogging features
- -Perfect for artists and designers
- -A free trial is available.
- Paid Plans range from $12 to $46 per month.
Overview of GoDaddy
- GoDaddy is the most user-friendly straightforward website builder for constructing a website. With its design aid, you only need to submit your information before GoDaddy builds a customised website for you to modify.
- Simple layouts and instructions for adding items to your site allow for an exceptionally simple and quick development procedure. And the findings of our most recent round of study confirmed this — GoDaddy’s score has increased by 11.6 percent since our pre-2021 ratings.
- GoDaddy, on the other hand, isn’t the ideal choice for strong or complicated websites — it may offer speed and simplicity, but it’s also not the best choice for creating a fully personalised website. However, GoDaddy should tick all the boxes for smaller site offers and enterprises, thanks to its straightforward appearance and user-friendly, design-assisted structure.
- In reality, GoDaddy has changed substantially since its pre-2021 evaluations, increasing its design functionality score by 14% in our most recent research. This growth was mostly driven by the platform’s enhanced templates and superior customisation, which transformed GoDaddy from an uninspiring ‘Plain Jane’ into one of the market’s highest-rated (and nicest-looking) builders.
- GoDaddy may be the fastest website builder, and its rates are comparable — plans vary from $9.99 to $19.99 each month. Fortunately, GoDaddy offers a free plan as well as a generous one-month free trial, so you can be sure it’s the appropriate fit before signing up.
- GoDaddy is the greatest website builder for anyone looking to have a basic, attractive website up and running as soon as possible.
- GoDaddy creates a site for you based on your responses to a few preliminary questions. It’s simple and quick.
- It’s an excellent alternative for someone who isn’t very tech-savvy or who is short on time.
- Are you in a hurry?
- GoDaddy is the quickest website builder available; ideal for rapidly putting a small site online!
- Yes! I’d Like to See GoDaddy
4) Weebly
- -It is the best for its generous free plan.
- -Monthly fees range from free to $29
- -Most suitable for small enterprises and portfolios
- EXCELLENT 4 OUT OF 5 RATING
- -The best characteristics for development
- -Extensive app store
- -Low-cost and no-cost plans
- -A free plan is available.
- Paid Plans range from $6 to $29 per month.
Overview of Weebly
- Weebly is a basic website builder that delivers a tremendous punch in terms of functionalities, particularly ecommerce and blogging. It’s rather simple to use, but it’s also more limited in terms of design and customizability than its competitors.
- Furthermore, in our 2021 research, Weebly was the most well-known website builder we examined, with the biggest drop in ratings across all categories. Most significantly, Weebly’s ‘Design’ score dropped by 36% — a reduction that implies the platform is not just out of date in comparison to the rest of the market, but has been virtually neglected by the industry at large.
- However, it does offer a free plan as well as three premium options ranging from $6 to $26 a month (billed annually). Weebly is one of the most economical website builders on the market because to its low-cost beginning plans. But, in the end, Weebly is a platform that will work for someone who is new to website creation — not for long-term development or expansion.
- Weebly is a wonderful and easy-to-use platform for creating a company website or an online portfolio.
- The theme selection on Weebly isn’t our favourite, but it’s adequate. Custom code and other features may be added to your templates (if desired) via the Weebly App Center.
- Weebly’s App Center is also where small companies can get solutions to help them improve their marketing.
- Weebly is inexpensive and simple to use, but it can still be used to construct complicated websites, such as this one by TrueSource Home Specialties, which sells a variety of services.
- Weebly is especially popular among creatives looking for a less expensive Squarespace competitor, such as film filmmaker Johnny Dry.
- Is Weebly the right platform for you?
- Weebly was our top-scoring website builder in terms of functionality, and it’s ideal for expanding your online company.
- Let’s see what happens! Show Me Weebly
5) Zyro
- -Best for the Fundamentals
- -Monthly price range: $10.90 $2.61
- -RATING: 3.9 out of 5 GOOD
- -An excellent grid arrangement
- -Simple, logical templates
- -Renewal fees that are higher
Paid Plans range from $1.9 to $29.99 each month.
Overview of Zyro
- Zyro is a simple website builder with attractive layouts. The features it does provide are of great quality, although it does not have as many as a top builder. In fact, Zyro might be seen of as a “little Wix.” It is less expensive than our top website builder selection, but it does not have all of the same bells and whistles.
- Zyro, for example, allows you to incorporate a blog on your site, which is excellent, but it does not provide search, archive, or commenting facilities.
- Still, we were blown away by the quality of Zyro’s templates – not only do they provide a wonderful user experience for your website’s visitors, but they’re also simple to update, even if you don’t have any technical abilities. However, they are not highly customisable, so if putting a personal touch on your branding is a major concern, you should try Squarespace instead.
- The final line is that Zyro is a platform with a lot of promise, some of which has yet to be realised. It appears like Zyro hasn’t finished developing some features and isn’t yet where it wants to be in comparison to its closest website builder competitors. Zyro, on the other hand, has some huge ideas and is one to watch in the future. Keep an eye on this!
- Zyro has piqued your interest.
- You have excellent taste! Zyro’s sleek layouts and excellent sales tools are appealing to us.
- Yes! try ZYRO=>
6) Jimdo
- -Best Price/Quality Ratio
- -Monthly fees range from free to $40.
- -Ideal for deleting advertisements on the cheap.
- -RATING: 3.6 out of 5 GOOD
- -Make a sale on the free plan.
- -Stiff designs
- -Lack of assistance and support
- -A free plan is available.
- Paid Plans range from $9 to $39 per month.
Overview of Jimdo
- Jimdo is a simple website builder that works well for constructing simple websites rather than complicated or showy ones. While it is more restricted than much of the competitors (particularly in terms of functionality and customization options), it compensates with excellent levels of usability.
- Jimdo includes all of the essential functionality you’ll need to create your website. However, if you want the ability to alter, customise, or design anything more complicated, the builder will rapidly become stiff.
- Jimdo offers a free plan that allows you to construct without risk, as well as two premium options that range from $9 to $15 each month (billed annually).
- Jimdo is a mid-tier website builder that caters to small companies looking to go online.
- Jimdo carefully walks you through the steps of creating a website.
- Jimdo’s designs are excellent, but you can’t do much with them. In recent years, the platform’s design has greatly improved.
- Is Jimdo your current favourite?
- If you want an ad-free website without spending a lot of money, Jimdo is a terrific solution.
- Yes! I’d Like to See More of Jimdo
7) Duda
- -Perfect for Clean, Polished Web Design
- -Monthly rates range from $14 to $59
- -Perfect for adding a creative touch.
- -RATING: 3.6 out of 5 GOOD
- -Intended for design firms
- -Surprisingly simple to use
- -Quite pricey
- -A free trial is available.
- Paid Plans range from $14 to $59 per month.
Overview of Duda
- Duda is a clear winner for anyone looking for a pure, sleek, and straightforward website design.
- The builder is simple to use, with drag-and-drop capabilities and organised and beautiful templates. This makes it ideal for anyone who values design but isn’t ready to give up complete creative control over their website.
- There are over 90 templates to pick from, spanning industries ranging from business to lifestyle. You have creative power for customization, but only within the constraints of the template — you’re still heavily guided by your selected design.
- These capabilities make Duda perfect for web designers who are producing several websites for customers – in fact, that is what Duda was designed for! Duda also enables you to create progressive, customised web apps, which is a huge benefit for any serious business owner.
- However, all of functionality comes at a cost, which is one of the reasons why Duda is 59 percent more costly than Squarespace on average. Duda’s primary disadvantage is that it is the most costly website builder on our list, with costs beginning at $14 per month. There is, however, a 14-day free trial available for you to try out.
- We’d recommend Duda in especially for web design firms trying to create simple, efficient sites for customers who don’t want to utilise WordPress.
- Duda is a website builder that focuses on design and may assist you in creating a visually appealing website.
- Each of Duda’s industry-specific templates has all of the functionality required for that particular company type.
- Duda’s sign-up procedure is intended for web designers and agencies, but don’t let that deter you — we found it surprisingly simple to use.
- Building a number of websites? The Agency proposal is a wonderful deal.
- Is Duda the right person for you?
- Duda is ideal for individuals who want a stunning website but don’t want to deal with the creative process.
- Let’s find out together! Show Me Duda
8) WordPress.com
- -Ideal for blogs and websites with a lot of content
- -Monthly fees range from free to $45 per month.
- -OVERALL RATING OF 3.5 OUT OF 5
- -Perfect for blogs
- -Extremely low-cost plans
- -Use code to personalise
- -A free plan is available.
- Paid Plans range from $4 to $45 per month.
Overview of WordPress.com
- WordPress.com is the free website creation platform provided by WordPress. WordPress.org, on the other hand, is a more sophisticated content management system that provides greater power but necessitates more technical knowledge. If you’re interested in WordPress.org, you may compare WordPress.com to WordPress.org. But for the time being, let’s have a look at WordPress.com.
- WordPress.com isn’t the most user-friendly website builder — in order to get the most out of it and extend your site, you’ll need to learn some basic coding.
- WordPress.com offers one free plan and four premium plans ranging in price from $4 to $45 per month (billed annually). This provides a lot of options as well as good value – WordPress.com’s lowest pricing plan, in instance, provides outstanding value for money, especially if you’re looking for a more simple site.
- WordPress.com is an excellent choice because to its abundance of features, high-quality blogging tools, and reasonable pricing. WordPress.com is ideal for bloggers with some technical knowledge. It is easier to use than WordPress.org, but it is still not appropriate for beginners.
- WordPress.com is a well-known platform that is particularly effective for blogging.
- WordPress is the original blogging platform, and as such, it’s an excellent choice for blogs. However, changing the look of your theme is not simple.
- Because WordPress.com is part of the broader WordPress.org platform, you have access to a massive library of plugins.
- Do You Wish to Begin a Blog?

9) SITE123
- -Best for Site Reliability and Speed
- -Monthly fees range from free to $41.
- -The best option for help and support via live chat.
- -BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE 3.4 OUT OF 5
- -A lot of help is available.
- -Perfect for newcomers to technology
- -Low-key characteristics
- -A free plan is available.
- Paid Plans range from $12.8 to $97.5 per month.
Overview of SITE123
- SITE123 goes back to fundamentals in order to provide you with an extremely simple and beginner-friendly website builder. It’s best suited for folks with little prior technical skills, as it may rapidly become restricting if you ask too much of it.
- SITE123 makes it simple to develop basic websites. You may publish your website quickly and easily thanks to its live chat assistance and simple design.
- This website builder’s key strength is its excellent customer service. Because of the live chat option, you may immediately receive assistance if you get stuck when developing or changing your website. SITE123 is a good choice if you’re a newbie or want to get your site up and running quickly.
- It is not, however, a sophisticated builder — it lacks complex capabilities and is not a scalable alternative for expanding a website. Still, with a free plan and excellent customer service, SITE123 is an excellent alternative for first-time builders. We prefer to think of it as a “best of the rest” platform — decent value for money, but (at least according to our users) nothing unique.
- SITE123’s total score performance has dropped by 12% since our pre-2021 study rankings. To us, this demonstrates how little the builder has evolved or improved in the previous two years, implying that it would not be the greatest choice for ambitious, growth-minded firms trying to scale.
- SITE123 is a secure bet, especially for hesitant newcomers who want a lot of assistance.
- SITE123 is always available for help via live chat.
- However, its templates sometimes appear old, and you can’t make significant modifications to them.
- Would You Like to See More of SITE123?

10) Strikingly
- -Easy to Operate
- -Pricing ranges from free to $159 per month.
- -Best in terms of value for money
- -BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE 3.4 OUT OF 5
- -Used for single-page webpages
- -Excellent value for money
- -Beginner-friendly
- -A free plan is available.
- Paid Plans range from $8 to $59 per month.
Surprising Overview
- Strikingly is another website builder for beginners that specialises on one-page webpages.
- Although it is not suitable for complicated websites, Strikingly’s free plan provides several excellent fundamental capabilities, making it popular among bloggers and freelancers. However, if you have big ambitions for your site, you could find the one-page design and minimum degree of customization restricting.
- You’ll need one of Strikingly’s three premium plans, which vary from $8 to $49 per month, if you want to utilise a customised domain name (billed annually).
- While Strikingly has its advantages, our most recent in-house study reveals that the builder has fallen behind in the quickly expanding website builder industry. Strikingly, unlike its predecessor on this list, SITE123, has horrible sitespeed performance (in fact, it’s the worst!).
- Surprisingly, Strikingly is the only platform identified as “bad” by our analysis, and it underperforms its top competitors by a whopping 48 percent.
- Strikingly provides excellent value for money and is an excellent blogging platform for beginners.
- One-page websites are a quick and easy method to showcase a new initiative or concept.
- On Strikingly’s $8/month plan, you can even construct two websites — ideal for serial entrepreneurs and huge dreamers.
- Do you want to get the most bang for your buck?
- Strikingly is a straightforward website builder that is ideal for inexperienced web designers on a tight budget.

11) IONOS 1&1
- -Best for its Excellent Low Pricing Policy
- -Monthly fees range from $7 to $30.
- -Ideal for multilingual websites and white-collar jobs.
- -RATING: BETTER THAN AVERAGE 3.4 OUT OF 5
- -Multiple language choices
- -A diverse variety of industries
- -Difficult to use
- Paid Plans range from $7 to $30 per month.
Overview of 1&1 IONOS
- 1&1 IONOS provides everything you need to build a conventional, working website. It won’t look like a Squarespace site or win any design prizes, but it will do the job. The builder offers all of the fundamental capabilities you need, especially for small corporate firms, and its fastest server response time and exceptional mobile sitespeed performance are quite amazing.
- It’s also a good choice for individuals on a tight budget, as 1&1 IONOS doesn’t offer a free plan, but its pricing start at just $7 per month.
- One of the primary disadvantages of 1&1 IONOS is that its designs are rather antiquated in comparison to the other top website builders on this list. 1&1 IONOS is a practical, rather than a fashionable, website builder — it won’t generate the most visually appealing site on the internet, but it contains the capabilities you need to succeed with your site or company.
- 1&1 IONOS is free for the first month, then costs $7 per month on its lowest plan after that. There are three proposals in all, one of which is for the creation of internet storefronts.
- 1&1 IONOS is a low-cost website builder with multi-language features included in all of its options.
- 1&1 IONOS is the only platform on this list that requires payment information before you can test it out, despite the fact that the first month is free.
- 1&1 IONOS guarantees a single point of contact for all of its customers.
- 1&1 IONOS – Do You Like the Sound of It?
- 1&1 IONOS is a cost-effective solution for white-collar firms and multilingual websites.
- Yes! 1&1 IONOS
5 More Excellent Website Builders
So far, we’ve gone over our top 11 website builders. What about the platforms that didn’t make the cut? Here are some more viable alternatives:
#1. Webflow
Webflow is a sophisticated platform, but it’s not one we’d suggest for the average user. Webflow, like Duda, is aimed primarily at web designers throughout the world. However, unlike Duda, this has yet to be turned into a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface. The instructional selection, on the other hand, is fantastic, and the platform is obviously on the right track.
#2. Format
We’re keeping an eye on a format that’s becoming increasingly popular in the photography/portfolio area. We don’t think it’s ready to compete with Squarespace yet, and it’s not particularly suited to non-portfolio websites, but we’re curious to watch how this platform evolves and develops.
#3. PageCloud
PageCloud is a simple drag-and-drop website builder, but it fell short in two areas when we tested it: mobile responsiveness and pricing. You must modify the mobile version of your PageCloud website individually to ensure correct mobile formatting, and rates start at $20/month, making it the most costly platform on this list. While it does not now rank among our top 11, we believe it has a lot of potential.
#4. Carrd
Carrd is a fascinating platform. While it is not suitable for most websites, it excels in its designated niche: one-page webpages. It’s excellent when you want to go above and beyond a PDF, whether for a résumé, personal website, or project plan. There is a free plan, or you can create up to three sites for $9/year, making it an excellent value.
#5. Mozello
While Mozello did not make our top 11, it is an excellent choice for individuals who require a multilingual website. So, if that’s you, it’s absolutely one to think about! It also features an excellent mobile editor and made our list of the top free website builders.
5 More Excellent Website Builders
What goes up must fall down, and in our search for the top website builders, we came across a couple we wouldn’t recommend:
#1. WebStarts
The site of WebStarts has a somewhat cheap feel to it, which isn’t the most encouraging initial impression. Sadly, when we evaluated WebStarts for ourselves, the platform did little to re-establish our trust. It offers nothing unique and instead trails significantly behind competitors in terms of user experience.
#2. Yola
Yola has nothing fundamentally wrong with it; it simply lags so far behind the rivals mentioned higher up on our list that we don’t see it catching up. However, its pricing reflects this (there is a free plan, and premium plans start at just $4.95/month).
#3. Webs.com
It’s a same scenario with Webs.com, only that its looks are more outmoded and its plans are more pricey. Webs.com was acquired by Vistaprint in 2011, and the process of creating an account and beginning to develop your site still has that little fragmented feel that these mergers sometimes produce.
#4. One.com
One.com creates your website in the ADI style. You submit basic site information, and One.com creates a website to match. Unfortunately, Wix, Weebly, and GoDaddy also have ADI choices, and while One.com is less expensive, the others are superior (and two have a free plan). One.com is also hesitant to allow you sign up for a domain name or a website plan without submitting credit card information, which is rare in our experience and not something we want to see.
How Do You Choose the Best Website Builder?
You now have a good understanding of the market’s top 11 website builders. But what if you’re still at a loss for words? Which of these excellent builders should you select?
We can’t read your mind via the screen and give you the truth. Only you know what kind of site you want to build, your special requirements, whether you’ll be selling things, blogging, or presenting creative work.
However, we can provide you with some helpful hints for picking your ideal website builder — keep reading for three short and useful recommendations…
#1. Take Advantage of Free Trials and Free Plans
The majority of the website builders on our list include a free trial or a free plan for you to utilise. This is a great approach to see if it’s the correct website maker for you — try constructing a website and figuring out:
- -How simple it is
- -How long does it take?
- -What you enjoy and dislike
- -What you’d like to change
- -If you’re satisfied with the sample site you’ve created
Then, test out a few other website builders. Even if the first one you attempt is flawless, it’s still beneficial to have something to compare it to.
#2. Consider what you want to create.
- This may seem simple, yet many individuals choose a website builder based on how it is presented or simply because of the freebies that are included. It’s safe to assume that this isn’t the greatest approach to choose the finest website builder for you.
- You’ve already made the first step by reading this article; the next step is to determine the objective of your website and then filter down your builder choices accordingly. Don’t be fooled by low costs or things you don’t require!
- If you want to establish a portfolio website, for example, your best alternatives will be Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, and Duda. Try them all out and see which one you like.
- If you want to sell online, you should look for a website builder that that offers strong ecommerce options. Wix is our top-rated ecommerce platform because it provides a wide selection of selling tools and extra features to help your online store succeed. For additional information on where to begin, see our list of the best ecommerce systems.
- In this case, selecting your finest website builder is considerably easier since you may disregard alternative builders (such as 1&1 IONOS and WordPress.com) because, despite their other benefits, they do not meet your unique demands.
#3. Consider Your Budget
- It’s as easy as that: you don’t want to overpay on your website. Examine each builder’s price plans, determine how much you can afford to spend, and decide if you want to pay ahead for the year or monthly (monthly prices will be more expensive, but give you more flexibility).
- However, don’t make the mistake of underfunding your website — always pay for the best function Object() { [native code] } you can afford. Yes, there are a lot of wonderful free plans available, but they won’t provide your site with the functionality it needs to prosper in the long run.
